Payson, AZ at a Glance
Payson is located in the geographical center of Arizona
in the Alpine region northeast of Phoenix
and in between the Sierra Ancha and Mazatzal Mountain Ranges. An abundance of
outdoor activities from cross-country skiing to hunting and fishing are supported
by the year-round mild climate and diverse landscape of the Mogollon Rim. The
Tonto
Natural State Park provides camping, hiking trails and horseback riding
and boasts the region's largest stand of Ponderosa trees, which draws many visitors
to the area. Another attraction is the Annual
World’s Oldest Continuous Rodeo, traditionally held each year in the third
week of August. The rodeo celebrated 122 years of rodeo sport in 2006 and holds
the title for being oldest continuous rodeo in the world. There are also several
golf courses in the area for those golf enthusiasts and spectators alike. Payson
Golf Course offers not only a world-class game of golf, but also breathtaking
views of the surrounding mountain scenery and a 5,000-foot drop to the valley
below.
